About IAPPM Starting a Special Interest Group (SIG)

Starting a Special Interest Group (SIG)

Within IAPPM, there are two types of SIGs you may form: regular professional SIGs and student branch SIGs.

Regular Professional SIGs

This type of SIG are subunits of IAPPM Greater China Chapter and established by written notification to IAPPM Greater China Chapter. SIGs are concerned with representing and fulfilling the needs of the member in their specific industrial disciplines area. SIGs allow members to meet face-to-face and host local activities.

In order to form a SIG you will need to have a President and three members, above student grade, who are members of the Association.

Student SIGs

In order to form a student SIG it is necessary to have a college, university or educational institution endorse a written application to IAPPM Greater China Chapter. You will need a faculty advisor who is also a member of IAPPM and three student members. Campus based student SIGs offer students the opportunity to develop professional and technical perspectives associated with the PM services profession while pursuing their academic programs. Student participation in IAPPM events, at the regional or international level, provides valuable networking opportunities for future employment, and the educational programs offered by IAPPM contribute to the early professional development of the project practitioner.

If you are interested in starting a SIG, please read further.

SIG Benefits

IAPPM exists to promote the use of Project and Program management as a professional service and to enhance the quality of project practice. As future members of the profession, project practitioners share an interest in these goals. In immediate terms, IAPPM serves the SIG as:

- A source of information about what is happening in the project industry and the project/program profession
- A contact for obtaining speakers experienced in project and program management
- A means to getting published through qualified papers, research results, and opinions of interest to practitioners
- A means of building a network of contacts in the industry

IAPPM benefits from SIGs as well. They not only provide a network of on-going contacts in academia which is a potential source of leading edge thinking on new directions for the project and program management profession, but is able to promote the profession to a large number of practitioners.

If you are interested in starting a student or regular professional SIG and would like a copy of our SIG guidelines, please email us at info@iappm.org.hk.
